My five years’ old daughter Mini cannot live without chattering. Ireally believe that in all her life she has not wasted one minute insilence. Her mother is often vexed at this, and would stop her prattle, but I would not. To see Mini quiet is unnatural, and I cannot bear itfor long. And so my own talk with her is always lively. One morning, for instance, when I was in the midst of the seventeenthchapter of my new novel, my little Mini stole into the room, andputting her hand into mine, said: “Father! Ramdayal the door-keepercalls a crow a krow! He doesn’t know anything, does he?”Before I could explain to her the differences of language in thisworld, she was embarked on the full tide of another subject.

Made by writers like you.

Every genre, every style — here's what happens when your story finally becomes the book you imagined.

Using the platform has transformed my literary potential. It has brought my book, Angus the Robin, into the graphic novel sphere and opened up a world of new readers for me too. Using the tool was easy — it was easy to change the images to suit the ethos of the book. Overall, I have been very happy with the finished result. Something that I never thought possible has been created.

Watching our historical characters step off the page in visual form has been incredible. We are excited to bring our story to a whole new segment of readers!

The illustrations exceeded our expectations and reflected our vision with stunning accuracy. In addition to their artistry, the team brought professionalism, positivity, and reliability to every interaction. Highly recommended for anyone looking for high-caliber illustration work.

I was very pleased with the opening of my novel Rise of the Nemesis. The graphic novel did a good job of presenting the setting, characters, and plot.

As a teacher, I love how these graphic novels bring the classics to life — they’re easy to grab, fun to read, and perfect for getting lost in the story!

Common questions

Everything you're wondering.

On Pro, once you've paid, every panel, page, and character design is yours: full commercial rights, no royalties owed to us. Publish on Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, or Lulu, sell physical or digital copies, or license the work. On Lite, your graphic novel is for personal use only — you can read it, keep it, and share it, but not sell or commercially distribute it. Want commercial rights on a Lite story later? Upgrade it to Pro by paying the difference, rather than starting over. Two things apply on any paid tier: a credit line is required wherever author or publisher credits appear (“Graphic novel adaptation by Novvel.co”), and pages you share via a reader link always carry a small “Made with Novvel” mark. Pro downloads come without any watermarks; Lite downloads carry a watermark, removed if you upgrade that story to Pro. Free previews are viewable but not owned — print or download one for personal use for $5/page, or move to a paid tier for full ownership.

On Lite, yes, by default — your finished graphic novel is added to Reader Universe, our public reading library, where other readers can discover and read it. This doesn't change who owns your story, and you can opt out at any time by emailing support@novvel.co. On Pro, your story stays private unless you choose to share it yourself or opt in to Reader Universe.

Yes. Any published graphic novel or illustrated story should carry “Graphic novel adaptation by Novvel.co” on the copyright page, title page, or back cover. Pages you share via a reader link also carry a small “Made with Novvel” footer. Pro downloads come without any watermarks; Lite downloads carry a watermark, removed if you upgrade to Pro.

If it's under copyright and not your own, yes — you need to be the author or have written permission from the rightsholder; we don't verify this for you. If it's your own book already published with a publisher, check your contract — many retain your right to create adaptations like this, but not all do, so confirm if it's ambiguous. Public domain works (older classics) are free to adapt without permission.

Consider fictionalizing it. Visually depicting a real, named person, brand, or trademarked place can raise legal issues that a passing text mention may not. We'll remind you at manuscript upload — when in doubt, fictionalize the name.

No. We only work with AI providers that don't train on submitted content by default. Your manuscript is used solely to generate your graphic novel — and, on Pro, for the optional Story Intelligence and Reader's Report features — never for training an outside AI model. Separately, anonymised data may help us improve Novvel's own internal systems unless you opt out by emailing support@novvel.co — that's about our own tools, not any third-party AI provider.

Upload or paste your manuscript. You'll see your characters identified and choose from a few visual styles that suit your story. Novvel generates your free preview — a cover, character sheet, and the first 3 story pages. Like what you see? On Lite, you pay one flat fee and your complete story is generated in one go. On Pro, Novvel generates chapter by chapter, with your approval before each one, so you pay and review as you go.

Regenerate it. Lite includes 5 free panel regenerations per page, Pro includes 12 — and unused ones roll over to your next chapter. You can also edit dialogue (unlimited), adjust characters, and reorder panels.

Your style is locked for a book once you select one at the start, to keep every chapter consistent. Two ways to get more: an Additional Style redoes your entire story in a different style from your tier's library — you keep both versions. On Lite this starts around $100, on Pro around $200, scaling with book length either way. On Pro, you can also commission a Custom Visual Style built specifically for your story, for $149.

Roughly 150 words becomes one graphic novel page — a 20,000-word novel adapts to around 134 pages. Prose that takes a paragraph often needs a full page of panels, which is why adaptations usually run longer than the word count suggests.

Start free — no credit card, no commitment. Your free preview gets you a cover and 4 story pages. Print or download it for personal use for $5/page, or move to a paid tier. Lite is a flat fee based on word count — $99 for stories up to 2,000 words, $199 for 2,001–5,000 words — paid upfront in one payment, personal use only. Pro is priced by word count with no length limit, full commercial rights, and includes Story Intelligence and The Reader's Report; you pay chapter by chapter and can commit to the full book anytime for 15% off. Current rates for both are always at novvel.co/pricing.

On Lite, early customers get a founder discount off the standard flat fee, available for the first 500 books sold or a limited-time window, whichever comes first. On Pro, early customers get 25% off their first book, which stacks with the 15% full-book-upfront discount for up to 40% off combined. Check novvel.co/pricing for current availability.

An Additional Style (redo your book in a different style from your tier's library — from $100 on Lite, from $200 on Pro, scaling with book length), a Custom Visual Style built for your story (Pro only, $149), extra panel regenerations beyond your tier's allowance, and translation into a second language (roughly 20% of book cost per language, Pro only).

Payments are generally non-refundable once we've started — the work begins immediately. If your graphic novel doesn't meet the agreed spec after you've used your regenerations, write to support@novvel.co and we'll review — we may offer further revisions, a credit, or a partial refund.

No. Character consistency is the baseline, not the achievement — any adaptation worth paying for should get that right by default. The real work is editorial: how a scene is paced across panels, which moments earn a full page versus a single beat, how your prose becomes dialogue that reads naturally, where a chapter break actually falls. That's what separates an adaptation with real craft behind it from a raw AI output. If a specific panel still comes out wrong — e.g. your character looks completely different or the image became photorealistic suddenly — flag it, and we'll credit that regeneration back to your allowance.

25 styles on Lite, 50+ on Pro — from picture-book styles to YA and adult genres including fantasy, noir, and manga. A few are auto-matched to your story's genre and tone at the start.

Yes — that's what the free tier is for. Upload your story and see your cover, characters, and opening pages before you pay anything at all.

Panel One was a graphic novel writing contest for students aged 13 and above, run in partnership with Bookosmia — Top 50 entrants got access to the Novvel platform to build their own graphic novel, and the Top 5 were published on Amazon with their name on the cover. The contest isn't currently open — it's returning next year.

You'll sign in with Google to get started — that's the only step. No payment, no long signup form, no commitment. We use it to email you the moment your free preview (cover, characters, and first pages) is ready, since generation takes a little time. You only create a full paid account when you're ready to move past the preview.

Drop a .txt, .md, or .pdf — or paste text directly. There's no minimum length; for full novels, we recommend uploading chapter by chapter for more control over each section's adaptation.

Generate a share link for any pages you've unlocked, including your free preview — friends can read in a mobile-friendly view with no account needed. On Lite, your finished book is also added to Reader Universe, our public reading library, unless you opt out by emailing support@novvel.co. On Pro, your book stays private unless you share a link yourself or choose to opt in to Reader Universe.
